I love Celtic music with a twist of punk and rock. Here are a few of my favorite bands that I will be listening to on St. Patrick’s Day:
Black 47
I’ve been listening to these guys for years. Black 47 espouses an unblinkingly political and thoroughly Irish form of rock ‘n’ roll, with songs covering topics from the Northern Ireland conflict to civil rights to urban unrest in contemporary New York to vignettes on Iraq.
NOTE: They are playing at Byrnes Pub, on Tuesday. I’m there.
Fogging Molly
Flogging Molly – Drunken Lullabies
I saw these guys for the first time at the Dublin Irish Festival when I moved to Columbus in 2004. It was a Flogging Molly concert that I went moshing and crowd surfing for the first time. This band is remarkable! Besides having enjoyable, infectious, fun CDs, their concerts are even better.
Note: Flogging Molly will be playing at the Congress Theater, Chicago, IL, on Tuesday, March 17.
Dropkick Murphys
Dropkick Murphys- The Warrior’s Code
Dropkick Murphys rock!!! Pour your stout. Turn the volume up. And if your holding your beer while listening to them don’t slosh it all over the place. This Boston. basement band started in 1996. Their music is poignant loud, raucous and chaotic.
